Our Orphanage In India

A safe home where children are loved, educated, and raised to know Christ.

International Sanctuary Ministries cares for children who have lost one or both of their parents, lost stable family support or face extreme hardship. Some kids come from families of abuse or neglect. Our orphanage provides a safe home where children are cared for, educated, and raised to know Christ, giving each child the opportunity to grow in a loving environment alongside their many new brothers and sisters.

How Our Children's Home Began

The Children’s Home began through a relationship between supporters in the United States and a local evangelist in southeastern India named Isaac. While serving churches and villages in his region, Isaac regularly encountered children living without stable care or consistent support. When asked how a small amount of available funds could best be used, his answer was simple: help children.

In 2005, a small group of Christians in the United States partnered with Isaac to establish what was then called Sanctuary Home for Children. Isaac and his wife, Mary Margaret, welcomed the first five children into their own home, providing daily care, stability, and Christian guidance. What began as a small act of faith quickly revealed a much greater need.

As sponsorship support grew, more children were welcomed and a dedicated facility was eventually obtained. Over time, additional needs became visible — widows needing care, villages lacking resources, and opportunities for evangelism — and new ministries developed alongside the orphanage. As the work expanded, the organization became known as International Sanctuary Ministries, though the Children’s Home remains the foundation from which everything else grew.

When changing government regulations threatened many small Christian orphanages, the existing buildings no longer met new requirements. At a critical moment, God provided through donors who made it possible to purchase five acres of land and build new facilities for the Children’s Home. More recently, additional support has allowed construction of a new building that will serve both as a school and a boys’ dormitory, continuing the growth that began with just five children.

Life at the Children's Home

Children at the Home live together in a safe, family-like environment where their daily needs are consistently met. They receive regular meals, clean clothing, medical care when needed, and the stability many had never experienced before arriving. Older children help care for younger ones, and staff members serve not only as caregivers but as mentors and trusted adults in their lives.

Education is a central part of life at the Home. Children attend school on campus, giving them opportunities far beyond what many previously experienced. Time is also set aside each day for study, play, and personal development, helping children grow in confidence and responsibility.

Faith is woven naturally into daily life through prayer, Bible study, and Christian fellowship outside of school hours. Children grow up hearing the message of Christ’s love while living in a community shaped by compassion, service, and hope.

A Normal Afternoon — Because Someone Chose to Help

Every afternoon, after schoolwork is finished, the children head outside together. Laughter fills the playground as they take turns on the slide, spin each other faster, and invent new games every day. The kids play hard and love life with their new family.

Moments like these exist because people chose to care when these children had nowhere else to go.

Your support helps give children afternoons like this — safe, joyful, and full of hope.

Why Children Come to Our Children's Home

Many of the children who come to Sanctuary Home arrive through relationships built over years of ministry in local villages and churches. Our director, Isaac — a Christian evangelist serving in southeastern India — is often contacted by local preachers who really know what's going on in their villages. When a child’s situation becomes desperate, they let Isaac know and ask if there's room in the orphanage.

Some children have lost one or both parents. Others come from homes affected by illness, abandonment, or deep poverty where families simply cannot provide food, education, or safety. In some cases, a parent remarries and the child is no longer welcomed in the home. Others have spent their days searching for food or work instead of attending school.

When space allows, these children are welcomed into the children’s home and become part of a stable family where they are cared for, fed, educated, and taught about Christ. Yet the need is always greater than the space available. Each year, more children are brought to our attention than we are able to receive.

Sanctuary Home exists to give these children what many have never known before — a safe place to live, people who care for them daily, and a real opportunity for a different future. Some children still have relatives who visit and stay connected to them, while others have no one. Here, regardless of circumstances, every child becomes part of a larger family, growing up together with new brothers and sisters in a stable home.

You can be part of what God is doing here by helping care for the children who now call this place home.

Two Ways You Can Help These Children

People support the children’s home in different ways, and you can choose the path that feels right for you.

Both are meaningful ways to help children grow in stability, faith, and hope.

Option 1: Sponsor a Child

Sponsoring a child provides daily care, food, education, and a safe Christian home. If you become a child sponsor, you can opt to receive the child's name and a photo of the child you are sponsoring.

Option 2: Support the Overall Needs of the Children's Home

Your gift helps care for all the children by supporting meals, housing, education, medical support, staff, and daily needs at the home.
