Slum Outreach Ministry

Through our slum outreach ministry, we gather children from a nearby slum community on a regular basis. Before this outreach began, many of these children were constantly hungry, had little or no education, and had never heard about God's love for them.

Through this ministry, we are working to change that.

Growing Up in the Slums

Many of the children we work with grow up in small slum communities where daily life is extremely difficult. Their families often struggle just to find enough food to get through the day. They live in huts with dirt floors or sleep outside.

Although public school is free, the overwhelming majority of these kids don't go to school at all, so they grow up without any consistent instruction.

In the mornings, many of these children are sent out by their parents to search through piles of trash for items their families can sell. Others spend their time wandering the streets or helping their parents earn small amounts of money.

Many families in these communities live in small huts made from palm leaves, scrap wood, plastic, and other materials they can find. These homes offer little protection from the intense heat, heavy rains, or insects that are common in the region.

Gathering the Children Together

In the afternoons, when the children return from rummaging through garbage heaps doing whatever their parents have asked them to do to help their families survive, our workers gather them together in the slum for a time of food, instruction, and encouragement.

The children are given a nutricious meal, which is the most dependable food they receive. Sitting together to eat also gives them a chance to slow down, talk, and experience something many of them rarely have — a moment of stability and care.

After the meal, the children spend time learning with two Christian teachers who work with them regularly. While this instruction is not part of the government school system, it is only consistent education these children receive. They learn basic lessons, hear from Scripture, and are reminded that they are loved and valued by God.

More Than Just a Meal

For many of the children of the slum, the time they spend gathered together is the most stable part of their day.

The food nourishes their bodies, but the time together provides something just as important. With the guidance of two Christian teachers, the children are given instruction, encouragement, and the opportunity to learn.

Most importantly, they hear about the love of God and the hope found in Jesus Christ. They are reminded that their lives matter and that they are deeply valued in the eyes of the Lord.

How You Can Help

This outreach continues because people choose to care about children they may never meet.

Through the generosity of supporters, meals can be provided, teachers can continue instructing the children, and the message of Christ can continue reaching young hearts in the slum.

Every gift helps sustain this work and allows us to continue gathering these children together for food, learning, and encouragement.

Just $30 provides a full meal for all the children we serve in the slum for one day.
